Jersey Rocks!
Unfortunately, Asbury's Wonder Bar will be meeting the same fate as The Palace. Wall meet ball.
Asbury Partners bought the bar, the Baronet, Fast Lanes with plans of knocking them all down, making way for condos. Rumor had it that AP was going to let them be open for the summer but who knows. Asbury Partners already owns the Stone Pony and so I doubt they will be wanting another music venue to handle. Too bad; we had a blast there this winter seeing Uncle Floyd and Everlounge.
DH2 is considering going to Pat DiNizio's house for Memorial Day so we might join them. Last year's party was a lot of fun... Finally got my Smithereens concert t-shirt signed a decade late. Here's info.
Congrats to Jersey Grrl Patti Smith for getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And not compromising herself by dressing in something a "stylist" decided was right, or censoring her song "Rock and Roll Nigger" given that the delightfully entertaining Al Sharpton who is now trying to ban the "n-word" was in the audience. The guys in suits must have had fun with the bleeping button at VH1 with that song. It sounded like some weird dj mix. She dedicated the song to her mom who requested that she played it when she won because it was her favorite song to vacuum to.Labels: asbury park, music, nj
